The Battle of the Silver Helmets took place on 12 aug. 1914 at Limburgse Halen.
The battle is regarded by historians as the last great cavalry with drawn swords in Western Europe. It was a temporary success for the Belgian army
In the English literature, this battle is also known as the Battle of Halen. The name "Battle of the Silver Helmets" goes back to the poem of August Cuppens, in 1914 pastor of Loksbergen.
This name, which is derived from the head protection of the German cuirassiers which could be picked up after the battle.
